Meet Michal Fanta

Just the other day, while I was in Prague, Czech Republic, I had the pleasure of meeting a young man with whom I’ve been in contact for over a year now.  Back in March of 2011 I received an e-mail from Michal Fanta, a photography blogger who is an expert at street photography, especially with his iPhone…yes, his iPhone.  Michal had heard me being interviewed on an episode of The Candid Frame with Ibarionex Perello and decided to reach out to me…

Originally he had asked me to be a part of a new project he was conducting called “The Best Foto Thing.”  He had recently started this feature on his fairly new blog, which is all about photography.  According to his blog Michal says, “The main philosophy of this site is that it is not the gear that’s important but the photographer.”

Does this sound familiar?  If not, see the very first tip in my book where I say, “It’s not about the camera.”

Michal was kind enough to wait for my answer to the question he posed, which was

What is the best “thing” you have ever done that made you a better photographer?

Please visit Michal’s impressive site for my answer to his question, but more importantly to see the truly wonderful community he’s created (the site is presented both in Czech and English for his mainly Czech audience).  Also have a look at Michal’s personal site where he displays his fine art and portrait photography encompassing everything from a series of posed gummy bears to macro shots of drops of water, as well as portraits of adults and children.

You’ll be hearing more about this great new talent in the future, I’m sure.
